Excavated from Akhmim, Egypt, it was obtained by the museum from Canterbury Museum in 1957.
Researchers were able to determine that the mummy was a 32 year old woman. Radiocarbon dating of the linen bandages and the wooden coffin puts the age of the materials at around 2,500-3,000 years old. Chemical tests carried out on the bandages revealed evidence for the use of natron in the original preservation. The coffin wood was from sycamore fig.
