The severed head from Roum Fen in Himmerland, discovered in June, 1942. At first, the severed head was named "Roum Woman" until further examination revealed traces of beard stubble on the face. The Roum Man is believed to have been about 20 years old at the time of death and the sheepskin in which the head was wrapped dates to early Iron Age.

Mummification[]

The Roum Man falls under to classification of mummy known as "bog bodies".

No specific rites and mortuary rituals were used in order to mummify this man, it is rather the ideal conditions of bogs that preserved this head in such good condition, leaving the skin almost intact.
