Biography: Nonosbawsut was born in Newfoundland, Canada. He was recognized as Chief Nobosbawsut of the Beothuk people. He was killed by British marines when a scuffle broke out after they had taken his wife from him. He died in March 1819.


His wife put him into a sepulchre after his death. His wife and son were also placed with him when they passed away. A sepulchre is a rock tomb. Nonosbawsut's sepulchre was retrieved in 1828 by William Cormack. Nonosbawsut's skull is now in the Royal Museum, Edinburgh, Scotland.
