This alleged mummy made her first appearance on the 25th of March 1930, reportedly wearing a gown from the spring/summer collection. Locals were struck by how real La Pascualita looked and by her resemblance to the owner, Pascuala Esparza, and given the recent passing of her daughter, rumor had it that the mannequin was actually the well-preserved mummy of her daughter, who died from a black widow spider bite just before her own wedding. Esparza denied the rumors.

The probability is that this is not a mummy but a mannequin. As stated by The Museum of Hoaxes, " would be impossible to embalm someone and have their flesh be preserved that perfectly. For some reason, people tend to think that it’s easier to preserve a body than it actually is.”

La Pascualita’s skin, hands, seemingly varicose veins and hair do look very real.
