|Fu Hou |
Fu Hou was born in Jinjiang in 1919. At the age of 17 he became a practicing monk. After becoming a monk, he spent almost all of his time away from the public's eye at the Chongfu Temple located in the city of Quanzhou, China. Monks who knew him, said he was a quiet and highly devoted man. Fu passed away at the age of 94 in 2012.
Before his death, Fu Hou decided to preserve his body. His body was treated by two mummification experts and then put in a pottery jar. Fu was put in the jar, sitting in the lotus position. In January 2016, they took his body out of the jar. They, then: washed his body with alcohol, covered him with gauze and lacquer, and then gold leaf. Finally, they robed him. Fu Hou's body is now a mix of a mummy and a statue.
