In July of 1842, a peat-worker found a foot four feet under the surface of the Frær Fen in northern Denmark. After calling a priest, it was extracted from the fern. She must have been lying face down based off of the position of the foot. A well preserved wool garment and a leather shoe were found with the remains.
Mummification[]
Naturally preserved in a peat bog.
Studies[]
The Frær Mose foot was thought to belong to a woman based off of the small size of the foot. This judgment has been put into question in recent years, and some now believe that the foot belonged to a man instead.
