Mummipedia Wiki

Ice mummies are natural mummies that can occur when a grave has been dug into the permafrost and a body deposited therein, when a body was deposited on non-moving ice - ice patches - allowing the ice to preserve the body without crushing it after an initial period on the surface for the tissue to freeze-dry before being encapsulated in the ice, or bodies left at extreme altitudes so that they might be frozen permanently. Ice Mummies can also form when bodies are entombed in certain conditions such as the Mummies of Qilakitsoq.
