The tomb of Aline was excavated in 1892 by the German archaeologist Richard von Kaufmann, he found a carved stele inscribed with a Greek text which mentioned the name Aline as the owner of the tomb

Two small mummies were uncovered, identified only as the daughters of a woman called Aline. The older of the two girls was about 4 years old, the other was about 2.5 at the times of their deaths. The names of these two girls are unknown.

The younger girl was initially thought to be a boy.
